The healing journey is not always easy (or glamorous), but I believe it’s always worth it.
My name is Dawn, but I also answer to Dawn-Marie, Mama, Honey, Love, Mrs. Dawn, Mrs. Pielak, and occasionally to Ma’am (though I secretly hate that one). I started New Dawn Meditation in 2016, as a way to share to my passion for meditation with my community.
This part time gig is my full time passion, and I am always looking for ways to connect with people like you to share my story and listen to yours; to offer you support and guidance on your journey, all while doing my own healing work.
I want to connect, collaborate, conspire, and co-create in a way that leaves each of us feeling better for having shared space.
I was first introduced to meditation in 2015. My mind was always “on” - anxious, critical, overthinking, chaotic. When a girlfriend suggested I try meditation, I thought, "Have you met me?" I wasn’t capable of relaxing! And even if I thought meditation “could” work, where would I find the time? Well, I “grudgingly” agreed to try it, and attended a women’s wellness retreat in Banff. (Because let’s face it, if you’re going to try to it, you might as well go to a 5 star hotel in the mountains, right? If I failed, well, at least I was doing it in comfort and style)! Full disclosure, I hated it. I could barely sit still, and of course I couldn’t quiet my mind. I kept opening my eyes to see what everyone else was doing, and to check the clock (to see when this torture would end).In spite of my perceived failure, I was reassured by everyone that it’s always like that when you first try, and that if I could just sit for a few minutes a day, it would get easier. So, not wanting to disappoint this group of strangers, I committed to practice a little bit of meditation whenever I darn well felt like it! And, as you have probably figured out, since you’re on my business page, I stuck to the practice and it changed my life!
Healing can be hard work. Some days I find myself asking, “Am I done yet? Can I please not have any lessons today, Universe?” It can be exhausting, frustrating and overwhelming. But, it can also be cathartic, rewarding, and joyous! Meditation has allowed me to access the stillness that exists within all of us. A daily(-ish) practice of meditation has helped me to shine light into the darkness, to find calm in the chaos, to respond rather than react to situations or people.
Meditation is not a cure - it’s a curriculum.
The more you practice sitting in stillness, the easier it is to find stillness in any situation.
In 2016, I became a Lifestyle Meditation Teacher, certified to offer Introduction to Meditation Workshops for kids, teens, and adults of all experience levels. In 2017, I graduated from the Lifestyle Meditation 200 Hour Teacher Training, which certified me to teach their signature 10 hour workshop. Each of these courses was transformational in its own way, and helped me to more deeply connect to my own healing journey.
So what are you waiting for? No experience necessary, but please have an open mind and an open heart .
Let New Dawn help you find your stillness.
